South Carolina’s greatest challenge in the coming decade is the balancing of the state’s physical and fiscal health. Denise Waldrep will work toward sustainable growth and development that will not deplete the very resources that we depend upon for industry and tourism. She will work for a South Carolina where all families will have a healthy environment and the necessary resources to thrive. Denise will work to ensure that access to healthcare, education, and energy will be affordable and equitable for South Carolinians.
Healthcare
Denise Waldrep will work to ensure equitable and affordable healthcare by promoting:
legislation to provide affordable broadband internet access that will bring telehealth services to all South Carolinians
a premium tax credit to help middle class families pay for health insurance
legislation to end surprise billing
prohibiting drug manufacturers from increasing their prices by more than the general inflation rate.
legislation to allow Medicare to negotiate with drug companies for lower drug prices
medical practices that will lower infant and maternal mortality rates
funding for planning pregnancies and reproductive health
premium free public health care insurance for low income Americans
greater access to mental health care and eliminate the stigma around mental health care
Education
Denise Waldrep will advocate for effective education for all communities by:
working to pass an updated formula for funding public schools to ensure a more equitable distribution of funds to South Carolina’s school districts
passing legislation to provide teachers with a salary commensurate with that of the recognized southeast average salary of public school teachers with similar years’ experience, educational degrees, and certification
working to ensure that students and teachers have safe and secure classrooms that are conducive to learning and are free from recognized dangers, hazards, or threats that are causing or likely to cause serious injury or disability
Economic development
Denise Waldrep will work diligently to support our entrepreneurs and small businesses that have been adversely affected by the recent economic crisis by:
working to position South Carolina businesses into American supply chains to keep the country running to provide jobs and keep the country running
creating jobs in the the building of up-to-date sustainable infrastructure that includes universal broadband internet, energy grids, and roads
producing legislation that creates forgivable loans for small businesses
advocating for affordable daycare for children and aging adults
creating safer communities by supporting the implementation of community policing practices and criminal justice reform
Environmental Concerns
Denise Waldrep will address issues of:
rising sea levels by funding adaptations of infrastructure in coastal municipalities to handle frequent flooding and also by working to preserve estuaries which act as buffers to flooding
plastic pellets and trash in the environment by implementing legislation that would require containment of plastic pellet pollution at its source and support local efforts to clean up plastic trash on land and in our waters.
