Denise Waldrep is an experienced science educator and published illustrator who is ready to use her knowledge and experience to work for the people of Greenwood and South Carolina to find the best possible path to physical and fiscal well being for all our communities. With over 25 years of teaching experience, she has taught preschoolers, elementary through college level students, and adults. Ms. Waldrep has taught science, art, and music in both public and private schools. She graduated from the University of Georgia, cum laude, earning both an interdisciplinary degree in Biological Illustration and a BFA in Drawing and Painting. She became certified in Science Education at Clemson University. She taught middle school science in Greenwood District 50 for 10 years. Ms. Waldrep has been an adjunct instructor of art education at Lander University as well as an adjunct instructor of art and anatomy/physiology at Piedmont Technical College. She currently teaches preschool music part time and maintains her art studio at home while selling her art in Main & Maxwell Gallery in Greenwood, SC. She recently illustrated the children’s book “Batrocks and Greenie” by Peggy and Michael Bassett. She is married to Brian Waldrep, Environmental Engineer for Greenwood Metropolitan District, and is a proud mother and grandmother. She has served on the boards of the Arts Center of Greenwood, the Greenwood Festival Chorale, and The Museum of Greenwood. A member of St. Mark UMC, she sings in the Chancel Choir, has taught Sunday School for many years and served as secretary for the Church Council. She is active in the Greenwood County Democratic Party, having recently served as First Vice Chair. She enjoys exercising with her Old Souls/New Moves dance class, doing projects with her grandchildren, and journaling.
